BIOGRAPHY

Ian Talboys
Details

I'm based in the north east of Scotland and enjoy macro photography as well as architectural, landscape, plant, bird and other wildlife photography.

I am largely self taught, developing my photographic skills with basic 'Kodak 126 Instamatic' cameras to 35mm and medium format film cameras and latterly digital SLR's.  For a while after graduating in Biology, I volunteered in a professional scientific photographic studio working in the studio, outdoors in the field and in the darkroom processing black and white and colour images.

I have had a career working in nature conservation and outdoor learning as a Countryside Ranger and managing Countryside Ranger Services in England and Scotland.

I won the Scottish Nature Photography Award 2015 in the Urban Greenspace category.  I also won the Scottish Nature Photography Award 2017 in the Scottish Botanical category, second place in the Environmental category and third place in the Scottish Urban Greenspace category.

I was awarded a Highly Commended Award in the Sissinghurst Castle Garden category of the International Garden Photographer of the Year Awards 2019 and a second place in the Nature of Scotland Awards 2019 Urban Greenspace category.
